---- — OSKALOOSA — Ottumwa baseball standout Collin Schulz has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for William Penn University. The senior Bulldog star will be looking to shine for the Statesmen starting next spring.
Shulz, a native of Ottumwa, was a major contributor to last summer's Ottumwa baseball team, which finished the season at 19-19. Schulz led the team with a .452 batting average. He also led the Bulldogs in doubles (12), stolen bases (16) and he trailed only Seth Griffiths with seven triples. Schulz plays a number of positions including shortstop, second baseman, outfielder and pitcher.
Schulz's solid play has garnered him a number of honors: third team All-State Honors, first team of Class 4A All-South Central District team and two-time first team CIML Metro all-conference.
"I'm very pleased to have signed Collin," Statesmen Baseball coach Mike Laird said. "He possesses a strong arm, excellent hitting skills and outstanding speed. He could have an opportunity to help us right away."
