---- — BLOOMFIELD — Cassie Crall's individual leading round helped the Albia girls golf team best Centerville in an exciting South Central Conference meet Tuesday.

Yet, in the end, it was not Crall but Anna Riley, who ensured a first-place finish for the Lady Dees.

The meet actually resulted in a tie, as both teams finished with 431 strokes. Albia, however, snared first place because the Lady Dees' fifth best scorer — Riley carded a 116 — shot a lower score than the 121 carded by Big Reds' fifth-highest scorer Bayleigh Johnson.

"After trailing by eight shots after nine holes, we were just gritty enough to post a good second nine and escape with this win," Albia golf coach Michael Duea said. "I was only hearing of bad shots and bad holes to begin the tournament and I'm proud that the girls stayed with it when they were not feeling good about their game. We always have a great battle with Centerville and today was no exception."

Crall medaled with a 96, as she finished two strokes better than Centerville's Jessica Scott.

"I'm very pleased that Cassidy could earn this medalist honor as it is one those lifetime achievements you always remember," Duea said. "She has been a leader that we count on at every meet."

Lexie Van Polen finished second among the Lady Dees with a round of 108 and Maddison Lange carded a 104 for Centerville.

Chariton finished fourth overall with a collective score of 466 strokes and Davis County took fifth overall at the conference meet with 488. Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont finished sixth with 517.

The Chargers Miranda Davis shot the highest score for her team, as she carded a 109 and Lauren Bupp led her team with a 111. For the Mustangs, Blair Bodkins led the way with a round of 115.
