---- — OTTUMWA — The Ottumwa boys tennis team finished its season at the Class 2A District Meet Friday.
The Bulldogs failed to qualify for sub-state prelimary’s as a team or for state as individuals at a meet that was moved from Ottumwa to the University of Iowa tennis courts in Iowa City because of wet weather conditions. Thus ends another successful season that saw the Bulldogs capture yet another CIML Metro Conference championship.
A few athletes from other area schools fared better than Ottumwa at districts Friday. The Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment boys tennis team lived up to its program’s venerable history, as the Pioneers had a couple of its athletes qualify for state. MSAE’s Sam Stickels captured the Class 1A district championship in singles play and the Pioneer team of Raffi Gelfand and Chandre Morales earned runner-up status in doubles play. In addition, Fairfield’s Gov. Punj claimed runner-up status in Class 1A singles action, thereby qualifying for state.
