Big weekend of action on tap

Hello race fans and welcome to another edition of The Pit Stop.

This weekend is the first holiday weekend during the racing season and with it brings some great racing action. The Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa kicks off the week of racing tomorrow night with the night of racing being sponsored by Supreme Lawn and Landscape.

The IMCA Late Models will be racing for the second time this season. They had so many items donated last week to be auctioned off as a fundraiser for Mark Widmar, they had to save some things for this week to be auctioned tomorrow night.

I know some of the items that will be auctioned include Nascar Truck Series and Indy Car tickets to the Newton Speedway, Sprint Car two-seater rides, sheet metal from race cars and several other items. Some of these things would make great birthday items or maybe shop early for Christmas and buy an item or two.

All of the money goes to Widmar and his family. I also know that the Widmar family is having a fundraiser June 29 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Ottumwa.

Eddyville Raceway Park has a big weekend of racing on the schedule as they host the Doorslammer Shootout. Friday night kicks off the three days of racing at Eddyville with a fun night and Pro Mod and Nostalgia Super Stock qualifying. This is the first of two stops at Eddyville for the Chris Duncan Pro Mod Series.

Saturday action will be the actual Doorslammer Shootout where the Pro Mods and Nostalgia Super Stocks will impress the crowd with their fast passes down the eighth-mile drag strip. The Saturday racing action also includes the NHRA Division 5 Super Quick Series, Caseys General Stores Stick Shifters, Nostalgia Pro Stocks, motorcycles, the Iowa True 10.5 tire class and is also a bracket points race. Sunday action is a bracket points race as well as having the Division 5 Super Quick Series race, motorcycles, Caseys Stick Shifters and it is also the rain date for the Doorslammer Shootout should mother nature not cooperate with them on Saturday.
