PEKIN — Coming off a four-game victory in the volleyball version of the "Backyard Brawl" against Sigourney, Pekin returned to Southeast Iowa Superconference north division play with another four-game battle against Lone Tree. After dropping the opening game of the conference matchup at home, 25-19, the Panthers swept through the next three games 25-13, 25-20 and 25-16 to earn a come-from-behind win.
We started off slow and did not play up to our game that we have been at,” Pekin head volleyball coach Ashley Bartels said. “After the first set, the girls picked up the play and had a few girls step it up.
“Cassidy Tolle came in and hustled for everything and played aggressively. Her play helped boost the rest of the team. Jenna Swanson was the most consistent for the night being the only player who didn't miss any serves with four aces and led in digs (with 17) as well. Peyton (Atwood) played big in the middle and kept the blockers guessing.”
Pekin (4-4, 2-0) is off until an SEISC North road test at Wapello on Tuesday.

Sigourney spikers make it two straight in SICL play
LYNNVILLE — The Sigourney volleyball team bounced back, yet again, from a non-conference loss to earn a South Iowa Cedar League win for the second time in a row this season. The Savages took an impressive four-game road win at Lynnville-Sully, winning 25-15, 25-15, 18-25, 25-18 over the Hawks on Thursday night.
“I think in games one and two, we played really well. We made some adjustments on our defense and tightened things up,” Savages head volleyball coach Chris Carter said. “Lynnville-Sully played really well in game three and we didn’t finish the match as well as we could have, but we played well to have a strong comeback in game four and finish off the win.”
