Ottumwa swimmers gain experience at regionals

---- — WEST DES MOINES VALLEY — The Ottumwa girls swim team took ninth in the 2013 IGHSAU West Des Moines Valley Swimming and Diving regional with a score of 52.

Caroline Carlson took 15th in the 100 backstroke with 1:16.96 and Marissa Rupalo came in 16th in the 100 butterfly with 1:13.03. In addition, Ellen Carlson corralled 15th in the 100 backstroke with 1:16.96 and nabbed 17th in the 50 freestyle with 26.85. Plus, Claire Carlson finished 19th in 200 IM with 2:42.86.

"We had the opportunity to see some of the fastest swimmers in the state on Saturday, which gave our team some great experience," Ottumwa swim coach Stephanie Mishler said. "The past season saw the program make some big strides towards increasing our competitiveness and we finished the season on a high note, winning our least three duals. Now our focus has to be what each individual can do in the offseason to build on our successes."
