---- — DONNELLSON — A strong start at the plate for Central Lee and a cold overall night for Cardinal led to a disappointing night on the road for the Comets in Southeast Iowa Superconference south division play Tuesday. The Hawks scored the first four runs and never looked back on the way to a 7-3 win.

Cody Streeby, who had the game-winning RBI single on Monday against Holy Trinity, led the Comets again on Tuesday with a pair of hits and drove in another run. Brennon Elder added a triple, an RBI and a run scored.

“We’re in a funk right now,” Cardinal head coach Tom Hallgren said. “The best news is that we have two more games this week to figure it out. If we keep positive and don’t over-complicate things we’ll get back on track.”

Cardinal (13-8, 9-4) looked to get back track against Davis County at home Wednesday as the Courier went to press. The Comets will enjoy the holidays before returning to action at Wapello on Monday.
