---- — OTTUMWA — Fresh off an MVP performance in a prestigious tournament in Las Vegas, Jordan Washington is coming to Indian Hills Community College to continue his hoops career.

Washington has signed a letter-of-intent with IHCC, according to Warriors’ coach Barret Peery. The 6-8, 240-pounder is a true post man and coach Peery likes his ability to score around the rim in traffic.

Listed as a three-star prospect, Washington helped lead his New York City-based New Heights team to the title in the 17U division of the adidas Super 64 last month, claiming MVP honors in the process while playing before dozens of major college coaches. His squad had lost in the finals of the tourney last year.

Described as a “powerful player,” Washington was quoted as saying, “I love playing physical. Most people want to shoot jumpers, but my thing is playing right down in the box. I feel like I can post everybody up and score every time.”

“Jordan moves very well for a young man his size,” Peery said, “and he will be a great threat for us at the offensive end. I love his energy and passion for the game; he loves to compete.”

Washington played high school basketball at Pathways College Prep in Queens, N.Y., and led them to two-straight public school championships.

Indian Hills has had great success with New York players in the past decade with Dwight Hardy and Dustin Hogue a couple of those who have had solid careers at IHCC. Washington hopes to be the latest success story from the city.
