AREA WRESTLING ACTION: Seventh-ranked Blue Demons sweep on Senior Night

CENTERVILLE — Senior Jason Crosby highlighted a successful night in Centerville for No. 4 (1A) Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont. The sixth-ranked 138-pound grappler scored three pins including a pair of first-period falls as EBF won three matches in Centerville, besting the Big Reds 52-24, Van Buren 55-22 and New London/Winfield-Mount Union 57-16.

Crosby, the Rockets’ team lead with 23 wins, pinned NLWMU’s Tyler Schneider in 1:10 and Van Buren’s Sheldon Dewitt at 1:40. Crosby got his toughest test against Centerville’s Taylor Micetich as the EBF senior finally scored his third fall with just 35 seconds left in the match.

Centerville got a three pins against the Rockets on Thursday in the meeting of South Central Conference foes. Zach Bogle (106) and Bradley Irwin (132) each scored first-period falls while Riley Denny pinned EBF’s Chance Wurstra at 2:57 in their 220-pound matchup.

Van Buren scored three wins against EBF, scoring in four of the five lightest weight classes. Tyler Runyon (106) and Jacob Heisel (126) each picked up pins for the Warriors while Hunter Coffman scored a 10-1 major decision at 132 pounds against the Rockets’ Scott Couch.

Fourth-ranked EBF (12-0, 4-0) and Van Buren (0-8) will both compete in the Wayne Duals while Centerville (3-12, 0-4) hosts a field that includes Ottumwa, Chariton and Fairfield in the Big Red Invitational on Saturday.
