AREA WRESTLING ACTION: Seventh-ranked Blue Demons sweep on Senior Night


ALBIA — Late pins rally Osky wrestlers to Little Hawkeye win

OSKALOOSA — After losing four straight matches by fall, the Oskaloosa wrestling team needed wins in their final two matches to rally back for a Little Hawkeye Conference win over Newton. Cody Jones and Andrew Landgrebe provided just that as both grapplers scored falls for 12 straight points that lifted the Indians to a 41-36 win Thursday night.

Jones, a sophomore, picked up his ninth straight win by pinning Newton freshman William Lillo at 1:07 of their 160-pound match to pull Osky within 36-35. Landgrebe then won the match for the Indians as the ninth-ranked (3A) 170-pound junior pinned Sean Cook with eight seconds left in the opening period.

Oskaloosa (6-4, 2-0) wrestles again on Saturday at the Cedar Rapids Jefferson ‘J-Hawk’ Invitational.
