Osky goes cold in the fourth against Pella Christian

OSKALOOSA — The Oskaloosa girls basketball team battled Pella Christian through three quarters, trailing by just three points entering the final period on Tuesday. The Indians then went cold from the field, managing just one free throw in the final eight minutes as the Eagles pulled away for a 42-28 Little Hawkeye Conference win.

“We had really good execution both offensively and defensively up until the fourth quarter,” Oskaloosa head coach Steve Kaisland said. “We had some looks in the final quarter. We just couldn’t get anything to fall.”

Freshman Alexis Westercamp led the Indians with a 16-point, 10-rebound double-double. Oskaloosa (1-3, 0-2) hits the road for Little Hawkeye action on Friday at Knoxville.

Chariton girls rally for overtime win over Clarke

CHARITON — Allyson Showers came through with a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double for the Chariton girls basketball team, who needed an extra four minutes to complete a rally that started after the opening quarter.

Down 13-6 through one period against Clarke, the Charger girls pulled back to within four points by halftime and within a single point heading to the fourth quarter. After forcing overtime, tied 33-33 after four quarters of action, Chariton outscored the visiting Indians 9-7 in the extra session to score a thrilling 42-40 South Central Conference win.

Chariton (2-1, 1-0) is back home on Friday to host Albia in SCC action.
