---- — OTTUMWA — The Ottumwa girls' team once again came oh so close to picking up that elusive first victory Tuesday at Evans Middle School.

But, alas, at the end of the game the score read: Washington 48, Ottumwa 47.

Carrissa Hite had a monster night for Ottumwa, scoring 15 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. The wealth of Hite's points came in the second half.

"In the second half I knew I really needed to finish and go with confidence," Hite said, "that's really been a struggle for me in the first two games. So I knew was due for a good game."

Hayli Beeson complemented Hite's efforts with nine points — all on 3-pointers — and Kristi Cary added eight points.

Ottumwa plays at 6:15 p.m. Friday at Des Moines Lincoln in its CIML Metro Conference opener.
