Carr hit his second 3-pointer for a 41-40 Trojan lead less than a minute into the final eight minutes of play. Baker answered with a three and Albia led again. Gamrath scored to tie it but again Baker answered with a trey of his own.
Carr’s 3-pointer tied it at 46 near the midpoint of the fourth. Gamrath’s final basket of the game gave the Trojans a 50-49 lead. Baker's drive for a three-point play gave Albia a 52-50 lead with just over two minutes to play.
Jordan Reid came off the bench hit a big three for a 53-52 Fairfield lead. Ferretti scored and the Trojan lead was at three with less than two minutes to play. Baker scored to cut the lead to one, but the Blue Demons committed two turnovers in the next minute with the second being one of those scary charge-block calls on Baker.
Carr’s final two points came at the foul line. With 17 seconds left, he hit two free throws to put the Trojans up 57-54.
“I spent most of the first half trying to guard Baker. He can do it all and is really tough. I just tried to use my long arms to check him on the perimeter,” said Carr. “As far as late in the game shooting goes, I just try and always have a clear mind and never worry about previous shots.”
Baker would get points 35 and 36 at the foul line with just seven seconds left. Ferretti hit one of two from the line with four seconds left and Fairfield led 58-56. Albia had the ball at half-court with just less than two seconds left, but Baker was denied the ball and the Blue Demons couldn’t come up with the tying basket.
“I thought we needed to play like we had the whole game at the end,” said Archer.
