THORNBURG — Tri-County Trojans and Keota traded the lead seven times on Monday, but the Trojans ended up on top with a 9-4 win to open the baseball season in South Iowa Cedar League play.
Tri-County took the lead in the fifth inning and held on for the victory, scoring the go-ahead run on an RBI single by Tyler Lally off Brian Berg to bring in Austin Blythe. Spencer Steinke racked up four RBIs on three hits for Tri-County, homering in the fourth inning and singled in the first and fifth.
The Trojans win also came in large part to Jake Brumbaugh's dominant, 12-strikeout performance on the pitching mound. Brumbaugh allowed four earned runs, four hits and three walks over seven innings.
Tri-County (1-0, 1-0) hits the road to take on Belle Plaine Wednesday.
