---- — PELLA – The Fairfield Maharishi boys tennis team kept right on rolling over the weekend at the Pella Invitational. Coming off a win over Keokuk to keep their perfect dual record in tact, the Pioneers showed the ability to be just as successful in tournament play, outlasting the hosting Little Dutch to bring home the team title trophy with 165 points to Pella’s 135.
Raffi Gelfand and Chandre Morales highlighted the day for MSAE, taking doubles championship in the tournament with a win over Pella’s top duo in the final 8-4. Surya Sawhney and Girindra Selleck also came in third in doubles play for the Pioneers.
Sam Stickels led MSAE in singles play, making it to the championship match with an 8-5 win over last year’s fifth-place state placewinner Will Hamilton of Grinnell. Stickels finished second after losing to Boone’s Chad Mokelstad 8-4 while Solaris Nite also finished fifth for the Pioneers in singles play.
Albia finished fifth as a team with 55 points in the six-team tournament in Pella. Oskaloosa failed to score a point and settled for sixth place overall.
