---- — COLUMBUS, Ohio — According to a report from Pete Thamel at SI.com, Ottumwa native Chris Ash has been hired on to be a defensive coach for the Ohio State football team.

He's expected to serve as a co-defensive coordinator and secondary coach, a spot that opened up after Everett Withers took over the reins of the football program at James Madison.

Ash has been a defensive coach for a slew of teams during his career including Drake, Iowa State, San Diego State, Wisconsin and, most recently, Arkansas. He coached the Cyclones in six bowl games and the Badgers in the Rose Bowl.

While he attended Ottumwa High School, Ash played for former Bulldog football coach and current Ottumwa High athletic director Tom Kopatich in 1990-1991. During these years he played wide receiver and defensive back.
