Roby commits to DMACC

BUSSEY — Brittney Roby has many of the Twin Cedars hitting records for the school and she still has her senior season left to play on the softball diamond.

Brittney is a four-time first-team all-state selection in the sport. She is the daughter of Dave and Kim Roby of Knoxville. Both of her parents are employed at Twin Cedars.

She primarily has played outfield and pitcher at the school.

Thursday, Jan. 16, she signed a letter-of-intent to continue her education and accept a softball college scholarship at Des Moines Area Community College in Boone.

On hand for the signing were family members along with her new college coach, Bob Ligouri, her high school coach, Zack Dunkin and her Outlaws Softball Coach Chris Weber.

Her college choices came down to Simpson, Kirkwood, Coe and Des Moines Area Community.

“All the other schools were nice, but they didn’t fit what I was looking for,” Brittney said. “It came down to the people and the atmosphere. I just felt at home and the coaches, I love them. They made me feel welcome.”

Just to make sure, Brittney made two visits to DMACC. “The first trip I made with my dad. I took my mom the second time, just to make sure,” Brittney commented. “The college seems like a step up from attending school at Twin Cedars. It’s small but what I was looking for.”

Brittney is a five-sport star at Twin Cedars. She played volleyball, basketball, softball, ran track and cross country.

“Dad pushed us, me and my brother, to be the best we could be,” Brittney said in crediting him for getting her to be such a great player in softball.

Brittney has led Class 1A in batting average each of her four years on the varsity squad. She led the entire state in batting average three of the past four years.
