---- — CEDAR RAPIDS —The Ottumwa baseball team couldn't muster quite enough offense to beat Cedar Rapids Kennedy, as it fell to the Cougars 6-5 Thursday in a non-conference game.
"We had a couple of games that didn't go our way," Ottumwa coach John Jaeger said. "We hit the ball hard and we hit the ball right at them sometimes. When we had guys on base, we capitalized, but we had some tough breaks tonight."
Chris Peden blasted his first home run of the season — and Ottumwa's third home run as a team — and Collin Schulz went 2-4 at the plate. Tyler Johns also doubled for the Bulldogs.
"Kennedy is very solid," Jaeger said. "They are playing really good baseball right now."
Kyle Keck suffered the loss on the mound for the Bulldogs. He allowed six runs, four of them earned; on 11 hits while striking out two and issuing two walks.
Ottumwa (12-12, 9-5) plays Centerville Friday.
