Sigourney routs Montezuma

SIGOURNEY – Karah Appleget tripled and drove in two runs to help Sigourney defeat Montezuma 14-4 in South Iowa Cedar Conference Iowa action Friday.

"We've been putting up 10 to 14 runs in the last couple of games and swinging the bats well," Savage coach Shelly Streigle said. I've been really pleased with our hitting."

The game only lasted five innings because of the 10-run rule. Aside from Appleget's hot night at the plate, Sigourney's Maddi Denny and Bri Schauf combined for four doubles and drove in four runs between each other. Emily Danowsky also added three RBI to the Savages offensive output.

Jordan Carter got the win on the hill for Sigourney. She allowed four runs, only two of them earned; on four hits while striking out six and walking one.

On Thursday, the Savages trounced Belle Plaine 14-2 at home in another conference game that lasted only four innings because of the 12-run rule, and they knocked off conference foe Tri-County 14-1 in another four-inning game Wednesday at Thornburg.

"We've been really putting up runs in the last week or so," Streigle said.

Sigourney (17-5, 16-2) plays at conference opponent North Mahaska Monday.
