Warriors split with Iowa Central

FORT DODGE – The Indian Hills baseball team split two close games at Iowa Central Wednesday.

The Warriors edged the Tritons 5-4 in game one, but Iowa Central bounced back to beat IHCC 5-4 in a nightcap that needed eight innings to reach its conclusion.

Warrior Taylor Ostrich went 2-3 with a double and an RBI and Joel Booker doubled in game one. Alsis Herrera picked up the win for Indian Hills. Herrera, who relieved starting pitcher Matt Lashlee in the top of the fifth inning, gave up one run on two hits while striking out two in three innings of action.

Dawson Porter doubled and cranked a home run for the Tritons.

Edgar Lebron drove in three runs and blasted the Warriors only homer in the nightcap, but it wasn’t enough to get IHCC a victory.

Jordan Berry and Juan Figueroa did their part to help the Warriors’ cause as both players went 2-4 at the plate. Logan Mallek suffered the loss on the mound for Indian Hills. He gave up two runs on three hits and two walks in 1 2/3 innings.

Derek Kawlewski started the game on the mound for IHCC and gave his team three solid innings of work, as he allowed one run on four hits in four innings while striking out three. He was replaced by Joelfi Arias in the top of the fourth.

Iowa Central’s Justin Threlkheld went 3-4 and Porter homered.
