Patritto leads Bulldogs to first-place finish

DES MOINES— Ottumwa senior golfer Darby Patritto led the Bulldog linksters to a first place finish at a Grandview Golf Course tournament that featured the rest of the teams in the CIML Metro Conference with an individual round of 37. Her superb outing garnered her medalist honors and helped the Bulldogs finish 28 strokes better than their nearest competitor with a collective score of 177 strokes. The combination team of Des Moines East, Lincoln and North took second with 205 strokes.

Patritto birdied her first two holes — she nearly eagled the second — her approach shot hit the flag.

“I believe that’s the first time she’s had a nine-hole score in the 30s,” Scott Maas, the Ottumwa boys golf coach who filled in for girls coach Stephanie Mishler at the tourney, said. “She played an extremely solid round of golf.”

Whitney Dostal also helped Ottumwa’s cause as she claimed runner-up status with a 44. Bulldog Callie Lawson finished three strokes behind her teammate with a 47, Abbie Budan carded a 49, Shea Collett shot a 51 and Bailey Palmer finished with a 56. Hannah Lien, Ottumwa’s sole junior varsity player at the meet, finished with an eye-opening round of 44 in junior varsity competition.

Des Moines Roosevelt-Hoover placed third with 207 strokes, and Indianola came in fourth with a 212.

Ottumwa will see its league foes again at its home invitational and at the CIML Metro Conference meet, which will both be played at the Ottumwa Country Club.

“It’s nice to know how we stack up in conference, because we’re going to play them a bunch this year,” Maas said.
