Hughes medals at quad

BLOOMFIELD — Van Buren’s Payten Hughes claimed top honors in at a girl’s golf quad at the Bloomfield Country Club Friday with a round of 47.

Her strong individual round wasn’t enough to get the Warriors a victory, as Van Buren had to settle for third with 250 strokes. Van Buren’s Lydia Heald finished five strokes behind her teammate with a 54.

The Davis County girls fared a little better than the Warriors, finishing 27 strokes behind first-place Pleasantville in second place with a collective score of 247 strokes. Finishing atop the pack for the Mustangs was Blair Bodkins, who shot a 57. She was followed by Skyler Yahnke, who carded a 59.

Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont placed last in the quad. Jarrah Jansen posted the Rockets’ best round, as she carded a 64.
