Centerville in the hunt at Moravia, but settles for second

MORAVIA — Defending 3A individual state champion Alex Moorman gave himself and the Centerville boys golf team a chance to win Thursday in the 18-team Moravia "Mohawk" Invitational at the nearby Perserve Course. Moorman and the Big Reds both had to settle for second place to Hunter Van Veen and PCM, which won the team title by eight shots with Van Veen earning the meet medalist honor with four-under par round of 69.

Fairfield finished fifth as a team with a round of 342 led by an 11th-place round of 82 from Landon Gamrath. Albia got a ninth-place round of 80 from Drew Schofield to finish seventh as a team with a 353 score.

Chariton fired a 365 to finish 11th, led by Daric Laing's round of 86. Fairfield Maharishi was 12th with a round of 388 with Mickey DeAngelis firing a round of 82 to lead the Pioneers. Davis County got an 83 from Sam McClure to finish 13th with a 393 total while Moravia finished 16th overall with Lane Brewer leading the way.
