Pioneers protect home turf, capture first place

---- — FAIRFIELD — The Maharishi School of the Age of Englightenment reigned supreme at its home Pioneer Invitational Saturday, capturing first place with a collective score of 182.

The Pioneers, in an invitational that also included MSAE II, Davis County, Fairfield and Albia, took first place in No. 1 singles and No. 2 singles.

Sam Stickels claimed first place in No. 1 singles action, winning 53 of 55 games and Pioneer Chandre Morales grabbed first place in No. 2 singles, racking up 50 wins in 55 games. Fairfield's Gov. Punji came in second in No. 1 singles, as he scored 41 out of 55 victories. In No. 2 singles play, Daniel Pirc of MSAE II garnered second place with 44 wins in 55 games.

In double's play, the Pioneer team of Raffi Gelfand and Solaris Nite captured second place, as they picked up 38 game victories and MSAE's Fleshman and Wadsworth won 38 games and took second place in No. 2 doubles.

Avery Mulleneux of MSAE II took third in No. 1 singles, as he won 25 games. A pair of teams from Keokuk took first in No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. The duo of Hulsizer and Roberts of Davis County won 30 games and took third in No. 2 doubles.

Keokuk finished second place overall with 139 points, third MSAE II 125, fourth Davis County 96, fifth Fairfield 67, Albia fifth 57.
