Home sweep lifts Ottumwa American Legion to 10 straight wins

OTTUMWA – The Ottumwa American Legion baseball team continued their red hot play by lighting up the scoreboard twice at home on Sunday afternoon.

Ottumwa put up 23 runs on 22 hits in a doubleheader sweep against East Marshall, winning 9-2 and 14-3 in five innings to extend their winning streak to 10-straight games after an 0-4 start to the season.

Kris Peden got the Ottumwa American Legion off to a great start, going 4-4 in game one with a pair of triples and three runs scored as Ottumwa scored eight of its nine runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Chase Wood had a pair of hits and scored three runs while Jake Waller had a triple and three RBI as Ottumwa scored seven first-inning runs to set the tone in game two early on.

“We had 22 hits and only two errors on the doubleheader,” Ottumwa American Legion head coach John Hart said. “Our pitchers did a nice job throwing strikes. We did a good job hitting it and fielding it. We’re on a nice winning streak and we hope to continue it this week.”

That winning streak for the 10-4 Ottumwa American Legion squad will be put to the test over the upcoming weekend. Ottumwa will next play at the Carroll Tournament starting next Saturday.
