---- — CHARITON — The Davis County girls track and field team used a number of first-place finishes to take first at the South Central Conference meet last Thursday with 175 points.
Kassidy Sharp had an impressive day, taking first in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet and the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.96 seconds. Hayleigh Sharp also helped bolster the Mustangs by snaring first in the long jump with a leap of 16-7.25 and Chandra Smith finished in front of the pack in the 1,500 meters with 5:29.40. Davis County also took first in a number of relay races.
Madeline Nelson, along with Shelby Graves, Maggi Hougland and Ally McClure claimed first-place honors in the 4x800 with 10:31.80 and Lauren Lynch, McClure, Hayleigh Sharp and Kalleigh Tharp finished first in the distance medley with 2:44.13. In addition, the Mustang team of Hougland, Lynch, Hayleigh Sharp and Addie McKee came in first in the 4x400 meters, completing the race in 65.80.
Some other Davis County girls couldn't quite garner first-place honors, but they did enough to secure some respectable second-place finishes. For example, Mason Roberts zoomed to a second place finish in the 200-meter dash with 29.04 and Shelby Graves took second in the 1,500 meters with 5:30. Plus McClure grabbed second place in the 400-meter hurdles with 71.65.
