Pekin spikers win five-game home opener

---- — PEKIN — The Pekin volleyball team gave fans plenty to cheer about over the course of a thrilling five-game home opener Thursday night against Southeast Iowa Superconference north rival WACO. The Panthers overcame a disappointing loss in game four to the Warriors to earn a hard-fought 25-17, 18-25, 25-15, 24-26, 15-12 victory.

Beth Atwood led Pekin at the net, slamming home 21 kills while putting up three blocks on defense. Peyton Atwood added seven aces on 15-16 serving while Whitney Horras was a perfect 20-20 serving while dishing out 27 assists.

Pekin (2-4, 1-0) will next host Sigourney and Lone Tree in a triangular on Tuesday.
