Ottumwa spikers go winless at Pat Apgar Invite

MARSHALLTOWN — The Ottumwa volleyball team failed to secure its first victory at the Pat Apgar Invitational in Marshalltown Sept. 27

The Bulldogs' four losses came against Iowa Falls (21-11, 21-12), Charles City (21-7, 21-15), Iowa City West (21-7, 21-6) and hometown favorite Marshalltown (25-13, 25-17).

"It was a little bit of a learning experience for us," Bulldog coach Jessica Carson said. "We hit fairly well, we just hit it out of bounds too much. A lot of the errors we made this weekend are really fixable."

Megan Black spearheaded the Ottumwa attack in the four matches, leading the Bulldogs with 15 kills and 14 digs. In addition, Ellie Hammack made 15-16 serves, Megan Roberston led Ottumwa with 16 assists and Chloe Davis added 13 assists. Plus, Black and Mallory Simmer led Ottumwa with four blocks each. Simmer also compiled two aces.

The Bulldogs play at 7:30 p.m. today at CIML Metro Conference rival Des Moines Lincoln. Pat Apgar Invitational results
