---- — ALBIA — In the past two years, Albia and Centerville have scored a combined 10 points in the Battle of Highway 5.

In Friday’s meeting between the two, Albia won in a one-sided matchup over the Centerville Big Reds, 54-6.

Albia, which came into the game ranked eighth in the Associated Press Class 2-A football poll, held Centerville to just 149 yards of offense. The Big Reds were scoreless until four minutes left in the game, when Tate Felton scored on a 17-yard run.

The victory allowed Albia to move up to seventh on Monday in the most recent 2A poll. It also followed a week-one 47-0 shutout of Fairfield. Added up, the Blue Demons have beaten two non-district opponents from Class 3A, District 7 by a combined score of 101-6.

It took just four minutes for the Albia Blue Demons to get on the scoreboard. They did so on a 15-yard run after they set up the drive by blocking a Centerville punt to obtain solid field position in Big Red territory.

A minute and a half later, Centerville fumbled the ball and Albia recovered on the Big Red five-yard line. Centerville, despite a pass interference penalty, was able to force Albia to turn it over on downs, taking over possession on their own one-yard line.

Senior Griffin Osing had the biggest night for the Blue Demons. Besides putting up 104 yards on the ground with 11 carries and two rushing touchdowns, Osing also caught a 48-yard score on pass from Blake Bayer. Albia put up 366 total yards of offense in the win, including 249 yards on the ground with six rushing touchdowns.

Seventh-ranked (2A) Albia’s record improves to 2-0 so far as they prepare to open Class 2A, District 6 play on the road in Clarke Friday. Centerville drops to 1-1 as they will face Keokuk at home on Friday to open Class 3A, District 7 action.
