---- — OTTUMWA - The Indian Hills cross country teams took part in their largest meet of the season in their most recent outing, the Brissman-Lundeen Invitational hosted by Augustana University. Over one thousand runners and 60-plus teams participated in the meet that was run at the Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island, Ill.

Freshman Sage Richmond (Fairfield) led the IHCC women and soph Eric Davis (Quincy, Ill.) paced the Indian Hills men in the meet.

Richmond’s time over the 6K women’s course was 28:04, just a few seconds off the season-best effort she had posted in the previous meet.

She was joined in the field by teammates Addison Kepner (Centerville) and Sarah Keith (Ottumwa). Kepner ran 28:11, like Richmond not far from her best time of the season so far. Keith finished in 29:05.

Davis finished the men’s 8K in 29:15, five seconds off the pace he ran in a meet in Grinnell earlier in the season, which was his fastest time of the year.

“Eric always has a great sense of how to pace himself,” IHCC coach Jim Streeby said.

Ray Quiroz (Columbus Junction) was next for the Warriors, running 30:31. After running nearly identical times over the last three meets, Streeby said Quiroz could be ready for a breakthrough.

The other four runners came in within 20 places of each other, led by Colter Hentzel (Fort Madison) who clocked a time of 32:57, just ahead of teammate Hunter Wilz (Eddyville), who ran 33:11.

They were followed by Austin Emry (Grinnell) at 33:57 and Ben Wheeler (Martelle), who finished in 35:07, nearly 3.5 minutes faster than his previous best time.

“We usually run some of our faster times at this meet,” Streeby explained. “But the combination of warmer temperatures and some sickness going through out team definitely affected our performance.”

Next up for the Warriors is a trip to Waverly for the Dan Huston Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 12.
