IHCC spikers split four matches at East Central Tourney

UNION, Mo. — Indian Hills fought to win a pair of four-game matches over the weekend at the East Central Tournament over the weekend. IHCC won a tight battle to close out play Friday against Missouri Baptist, earning a 19-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-23 victory after being swept by Mineral Area (25-21, 25-13, 26-24) before kicking off Saturday with a 25-18, 21-25, 25-13, 25-19 victory over Southwestern Illinois.

The Warriors could not finish the weekend in Missouri with a winning record. IHCC’s hope of moving back over .500 on the season ended when Butler, the 13th-ranked team in NJCAA Division II, scored a 25-11, 25-19, 25-11 sweep on Saturday.

Several different Warrior players stepped up in a variety of ways over the weekend. Shelby Lauterbach, who had a solid weekend at the net leading IHCC in kills, also showed success serving the ball with six aces in the four-game win over Southwestern Illinois. Sophomore Kassidy Guihan also had a great weekend defensively for Indian Hills, leading the Warriors in digs twice during the tournament including 29 on Saturday against the Blue Storm.

Indian Hills (13-14) hits the road tonight for a regional rematch with eighth-ranked Iowa Western at 7 p.m. The Warriors need to sweep the Reivers to win the regular season series and claim the regional title heading into the postseason, where the Region XI regular season champ will host the upcoming District ‘D’ Tournament to determine an NJCAA Division I National Tournament berth.
