---- — CEDAR RAPIDS — The hopes for avenging a home-opening sweep to ninth-ranked (DII) Kirkwood went by the wayside for the Indian Hills volleyball team on Tuesday night. The pink-clad Eagles brought home a successful sophomore night showing against the Warrior spikers, sweeping IHCC 25-22, 25-18 and 25-13 to complete the season sweep after winning in four games over Indian Hills in Ottumwa last month.

"We had great efforts early, but we fell short in the third set," Indian Hills head volleyball coach Lyndsey Lyon said. "Offensively, the first set was solid. Peyton (Crosser) did a great job finding holes and defense did a great job of picking up balls that made it through the block."

Crosser had nine of IHCC's 27 kills on 18-20 attacking while adding a pair of blocks and the only service ace of the Warriors night. Fellow sophomore Shelby Lauterbach added a perfect 13-13 serving effort, led IHCC with 29 attacks including 22 successful hits, and picked up a team-best eight digs in the match.

Those efforts nearly allowed Indian Hills to beat Kirkwood, who celebrated the fight against breast cancer with 'Dig Pink' night. After edging out IHCC in game one, 25-22, the Eagles gradually took over control of the match culminating with a 12-point win to clinch the sweep.

"Kirkwood came to life in the second and slowly began to bury us," Lyon said.

Indian Hills (15-17) has one more regular season match left to build up some momentum for postseason play. That final match will come in southwest Missouri when the Warriors travel to meet traditional power Missouri State-West Plains on Monday night at 6:30 p.m. The two teams met in a five-game thriller won by the visiting Grizzlies earlier this season at the Tom Arnold Net Center.
