AREA BOYS BASKETBALL ACTION: Albia blasts Knoxville to open season

OTTUMWA — Tanner Kellogg had 23 points while Matt Baker added 22 as the Albia boys basketball team blasted Knoxville 74-46 to ope the season on Tuesday.

The Blue Demons saw a great team effort throughout the rotation in the victory. Ryan Sarver had 10 points, Austin Luse came up with seven rebounds and five steals, Baker dished six assists and Kellogg grabbed 10 rebounds for Albia.

The Blue Demons (1-0) will travel to Putnam County, Mo. to take on Clark County (Mo.) on Thursday.

Savages rout Iowa Valley

SIGOURNEY — Vaclav Bujnoch drained five 3-pointers on the way to 32 points and the Sigourney boys basketball team opened the season with a 57-22 victory over Iowa Valley in action Tuesday.

Brandon Stuhr hit a double-double for the Savages, scoring 12 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Sigourney will host Belle Plaine on Friday.

Fast start lifts Central Lee over Comets

DONNELLSON — Central Lee took a 19-3 first-quarter lead and the Cardinal boys basketball team never recovered as Central Lee took a 62-43 win over the Comets to open the season on Tuesday.

Charlie Rachford led all scorers with 16 points for Cardinal while Jonathan Pedersen added 12 and Dakota Showman dished six assists. Hunter Roush led Central Lee with 15 points.

The Comets (0-1) travel to Notre Dame on Friday.

EDDYVILLE — Senior Christian Bambrook just missed a triple-double with 25 points, 13 rebounds and nine blocked shots as the Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont boys basketball team burst out to a 20-5 first quarter lead on the way to a 56-42 win over Iowa Christian Academy on Monday.

Trevor Leffler added 11 points and five steals while Trevor Swartz added nine points and eight assists as the Rockets opened the season 1-0.

E-B-F will travel to Putnam County (Mo.) on Friday.

Trey Stansberry added 12 points for the Eagles, who will play at Seymour tonight.
