AREA BOYS BASKETBALL ACTION: Mustangs down Knoxville, 64-55

KNOXVILLE — The Davis County boys basketball team used an 18-8 third-quarter run to down Knoxville 64-55 to pick up the Mustangs’ first win of the season on Friday.

Park Mikels scored 25 points while Calvin Utt added 11 and Austin Erwine hit 10 as Davis County improved to 1-1 on the season.

Utt also dished five assists while Colton Roberts grabbed eight rebounds for the Mustangs, who travel to Twin Cedars on Monday.

Sigourney defense stifles Belle Plaine

SIGOURNEY — The Sigourney boys basketball team held Belle Plaine to seven points in the second half on the way to a 54-23 South Iowa Cedar League win on Friday.

Vaclav Bujnoch scored 27 points and pulled down 12 boards as the Savages improved to 2-0 on the season.

Up 23-16 at the half, Sigourney outscored Belle Plaine 17-5 in the third quarter and 15-2 in the fourth. Brandon Stuhr scored nine points and Jackson Davis added seven for the Savages, who will host Montezuma on Tuesday.
