BULLDOG PREVIEW: OTTUMWA BOYS AND GIRLS BASKETBALL VS. DES MOINES LINCOLN

OTTUMWA — Time and Place: The varsity girls tip off tonight at 6:15 p.m. at Evans Middle School. The boys game will follow at approximately 7:45 p.m.

Records: The Ottumwa boys are 0-2 overall, Des Moines Lincoln is 1-2. The Ottumwa girls are 0-4 overall. Des Moines Lincoln is 0-3.

Boys looking for payback: The Railsplitters unceremeniously ended Ottumwa’s season last year, beating the Bulldogs 52-48 in the Class 4A, Substate 7 quarterfinals. Ottumwa can gain a measure of revenge with a win tonight. The two teams split their other two games last season.

Girls must decrease turnovers: The Bulldogs take on a  Lincoln team that also is in search of that all-important first win. If the girls can cut their turnovers down they have a chance to pick up a win and start CIML Metro Conference play on a positive note.

Boys don’t need to rush: The Bulldogs got off to a strong start Tuesday against Cedar Rapids Xavier, but they got into a bit of a hurry after the first quarter, which led to them committing 19 turnovers. The boys have shown they have the capability to handle defensive pressure, they just need to not get in too big of a rush.

Megan Black assumes lead role on offense: While the Bulldogs have struggled at times to put points on the board, Megan Black has been Ottumwa’s most reliable scorer. Black has led her team in scoring in three of its four games.

Boys Coach Chris Gravett says: “Our turnovers have to be around 10.”

Girls Coach Kevin Patterson says: ”We have really worked a lot on our offense this past week. The best we can do is make Friday night our best game so far.”
