Bulldog bowlers take wins

DES MOINES — The Ottumwa boys and girls varsity bowling teams picked up a pair of victories in CIML Metro dual action Friday against Des Moines Hoover at Plaza Lanes in Des Moines.

Led by a 204 average by Lynissa Lasley, the Ottumwa girls remained unbeaten at 10-0 with a 2766-1810 win. Braxton Coble’s 228 average helped the Ottumwa boys improve to 7-3 on the season with a 2986-1531 win.

Bulldog coach Doug Techel said getting some action in at Plaza Lanes was important, because the alley is the site of the state bowling tournament this year.

“This is where the state tourney is, so we use this meet to get accustomed to these lanes,” Techel said. “They are different from what we are used to.”

Techel mentioned that both teams will need to improve their scores if the intend to contend for a state title.

“We just need to keep practicing, work to get better,” Techel said. “Then we’ll see where we’re at once we get to substate.”

Bailey Palmer rolled a 200 average for the Ottumwa girls, while Payton Wilbanks rolled 184, Sierra Lennie 181, Sydney Swallow 173 and Michaela Malloy 165. Ashley Schooley led the Ottumwa girls JV team with a 160.

Isaac Goodman rolled a 218 average for the Bulldog boys, followed by Anthony Roberts’s 205. Joey Lee averaged 184, Jordan Mitchell 183 and Austin Palmer 169. Kolten Fountain led the Ottumwa JV with a 230 average.

Both Bulldog teams will travel to Merle Hay lanes on Monday to take on Des Moines North.
