Time and Place: The girls game starts at 6:15 p.m tonight at Evans Middle School, and the boys game will directly follow at 7:45 p.m. 1240 AM KBIZ will broadcast both games starting at 6 p.m.
Records: The Ottumwa girls are 4-16 overall, 3-9 in CIML Metro Conference play. The Roughriders are 9-11 and 6-5 in conference play. The Ottumwa boys are 1-16 and 1-9 in the CIML Metro. Roosevelt is 13-4 and 9-2 in the CIML Metro.
Make high percentage shots: When the Ottumwa girls have struggled to score this season it has has often been because of poor shooting around the basket. They will need to maximize their chances to score to have a chance against the Roughriders.
Avoid prolonged slumps: The boys fell behind Roosevelt 13-0 by the end of the first quarter and 29-6 by the end of the half the first time the two teams met. The Bulldogs outscored the Roughriders 26-24 in the second half and ended up losing 53-32. They will need to put together four solid quarters to have a chance at pulling the upset.
Coach Chris Gravett says: “I thought our screening was pretty good, we hit some guys on some back cuts,” Gravett said after Ottumwa’s loss to Ames Tuesday. “Whatever open shot they had they made, and we just struggled to make shots.”
Coach Kevin Patterson says: “When you shoot that low of a percentage, it’s tough to face a team that has a chance of qualifying for the state tournament,” Patterson said after the Bulldogs lost to Ames.
