AREA BOYS BASKETBALL ACTION: Third-ranked Big Reds finish unbeaten in SCC play

CENTERVILLE — Sigourney claims share of SICL title

Courier sports staff

THORNBURG — The Sigourney boys basketball team shut South Iowa Cedar League foe Tri-County out of the scoring column in the first quarter as the Savages earned a share of the SICL crown with a 64-21 win.

Vaclav Bujnoch scored 26 points and Brandon Stuhr added 11 to go with eight rebounds as Sigourney finished the regular season with an 18-3 overall record and an 18-2 mark in the conference, tied for first with Lynnville-Sully.

Sigourney won its final 15 SICL games — including two wins over L-S in that span — to meet its team goal of a conference crown. Now the Savages will get to work on their second goal this season — a trip to the state tournament. That quest begins at home with Class 1A district play next Thursday against either Seymour or Moravia.

Tri-County (2-19) was led in scoring by Justin DeKliene, who had five points. The Trojans open Class 1A district play Monday at Belle Plaine.
