Accused beer thief pleads not guilty

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) — A man who police say stole three 18-packs of beer and assaulted a store clerk has pleaded not guilty to second-degree robbery.

Police say 18-year-old Mario Thomas of Sioux City faces up to 10 years in prison if he’s convicted.

Trial is scheduled for June 24.

Police say Thomas and another man allegedly stole the beer Feb. 5 from a Kum & Go store in Sioux City. The men are accused of punching a female store clerk during the theft.

Thomas was being held in the Woodbury County jail under $25,000 bond.
