Iowa lawmaker files Fallon complaint

— DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A state senator has filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission charging that Democratic congressional candidate Ed Fallon broke the law by using a business he formed to advance his campaign.
“I cannot sit by while Ed Fallon tries to stretch the law to fit his needs,” Sen. Dick Dearden, D-Des Moines, said Wednesday.
Dearden supports Fallon’s 3rd District opponent, Democratic Rep. Leonard Boswell.
The complaint charges that Fallon has formed a for-profit business from which he takes a salary, but used that business to advance his candidacy.
Fallon has rejected the charge in the past when it was raised by Boswell, arguing that the business he formed is separate from his campaign. A telephone message left at Fallon’s campaign Wednesday was not immediately returned.
