OTTUMWA — Darlene Jones, 88, of 2670 N. Court died at 12:45 p.m. Feb. 25, 2007, at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

She was born Nov. 3, 1918 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Delmar and Etta Cook. Her mother passed away when she was two weeks old. She was raised by her grandparents, Chris and Anna Cackler. She married Jimmy Jones April 25, 1935. He preceded her in death April 24, 1981.

A resident of Ottumwa all of her life, she and her husband, Jimmy, were the caretakers of Ottumwa Park and Campground for many years. She was also in real estate.

She was a member of First Pentecostal Assembly of God. She was an avid Ottumwa High School Girl’s Basketball and Iowa Hawkeye fan. Her enjoyments were her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and Boston Terrier, Mitzi. She was known by her grandchildren as “Jonsey”.

Surviving is her daughter, Shirley (Norley) Smith of Ottumwa; two grandsons, Jim Smith of Ottumwa and Jeff (Lisa) Smith of Ottumwa; three great-granddaughters, Jimi Leann Smith, Lindsey Jo Smith and Jentri Smith.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Millie Heckart.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at the First Pentecostal Assembly of God with Revs. Rod Reynoldson and Bill Hornback officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.

Visitation will begin after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

A memorial has been established to the O.H.S. Girls Basketball Team.
