DELTA — Myrtle Baird, 87, formerly of Delta, died Sunday, March 19, 2006, at the Sigourney Care Center.

She was born March 24, 1918 near Delta, IA to Albert and Lilly Fern Osborn Glandon.

She attended country school near Delta. On Dec. 4, 1935 she married Jack Baird at the Methodist Church parsonage in Oskaloosa. He died Oct. 27, 1999.

She was an aid and then an LPN at the Keokuk County Hospital for many years. Then she served as head cook at the Sigourney Care Center, Mahaska Manor and at William Penn College. Finally she was a custodian at the University of Iowa. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Club Shipley Post #485 in Delta and served on the Springfield Cemetery Board.

Surviving are two daughters, Dixie Kanke of Milan, IL and Billie Wehr of Martinez, GA; three grandchildren, Kevin Kanke of Richmond, MI, Kimberly Kanke of Silvis, IL and John Wehr of Statesboro, GA; a great-grandson, Joshua Kanke; and a sister, Maxine Lathrop of Sigourney.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Marvin and Leslie Glandon; and two sisters, Marjorie Glandon and Mildred Courtney.

Funeral service 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Delta Methodist Church, Rev. Vince Homan officiating. Burial, Springfield Cemetery, near Delta.

Friends may call after 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Holm Funeral Home in Sigourney where the family will be present from 6-8 p.m.
