BLOOMFIELD — A Bloomfield man faces a 28-count federal indictment alleging sexual exploitation of a child, receipt of child pornography, possession of child pornography and making false statements to investigators.
Steven Crook Jr., 27, was arrested after a February report to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children led investigators to a video of an adult having sex with a child. Chris Thomas, a special agent with the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation, said in an affidavit that his investigation of the report led to Crook.
When investigators executed a search warrant, they found multiple electronic devices, including cell phones and SD cards storing child pornography. Some of the videos had been deleted, but were recovered during the investigation.
Thomas’ affidavit formed part of a case against Crook in Iowa court. Those charges were dropped to clear the way for the federal prosecution.
