OTTUMWA — With the ballot set for the 2018 November elections, the Wapello County Republicans are getting ready to open a new office.
Located in the former Subway building on Madison Avenue, a sign on the door saying the office will open soon. Wapello County Republican Chairwoman Trudy Caviness said there isn’t an opening date just yet.
“We’ll get through this weekend’s convention and we’re probably looking at the middle of July,” Caviness said.
The building has been vacant for several years and, as with any such situation, there was work to get done before it could be returned to use.
“We’ve spent some cleaning time,” Caviness said.
Caviness said county Republicans are, in addition to the convention, getting ready for the July 2 reading of the Declaration of Independence. The reading has become an annual tradition in Ottumwa around the Fourth of July.
