OTTUMWA — Firefighters responded Monday to a house fire in the 900 block of East Fourth Street and found a bedroom engulfed in flames.

Assistant Chief Cory Benge said several people were at home when the fire started. The bedroom suffered major damage, and there was smoke damage throughout the rest of the house.

“The fire in that bedroom was pretty well involved,” he said, with flames coming out a window and heavy smoke pouring out the rear of the house.

The cause of the fire had not yet been determined. Benge said he did not believe there was foul play involved, but said the fire would be fully investigated. There were no injuries.
