OTTUMWA — Active Ottumwa is on a mission to get Ottumwa citizens on the move by free Zumba and their Mall Walking program.
Active Ottumwa encourages people to come walk with them to reduce your risk for heart disease, enhance your mental well-being, maintain your body weight, lower your blood pressure, and spend time walking and socializing with your friends and family.
Free Zumba will be available to all ages every Thursday during the month of August at the Market on Main.
The no cost class is taught by instructor Elizabeth Luedtke.
“We're wanting to start getting people to a point where they are healthy, whether they're doing Zumba or something else,” said Luedtke.
It can be difficult to exercise on your own without any guidance.
“We know it's hard to get active on your own so sometimes it helps to have someone push you in the right direction and help get you into shape,” said Luedtke.
Gym memberships can be expensive and Active Ottumwa wants to find outlets for you to turn to when you're wanting to work out that won't cost you any money.
“We know financially people can't do it sometimes or they don't know how to work out, so we want to help,” said Luedtke.
Luedtke encourages anyone to come to their free sessions and bring any family and friends along as well.
“Everyone is welcome and the more people that come, the more fun it is,” said Luedtke.
Zumba will be from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. every Thursday this month. The Mall Walking program is on Mondays at 5 p.m. at the Quincy Place Mall.
