Iowa’s newest judge will formally take up the bench next month.
Gov. Terry Branstad appointed Myron Gookin as a successor to Judge Michael Mullins for Iowa’s 8th Judicial District. Mullins left his spot in District 8A when he was appointed as one of the state’s appeals court judges.
According to the district court administrator’s office, Gookin will be formally installed as a judge in a ceremony at 2 p.m. Sept. 16 at the Jefferson County Courthouse.
Gookin, an attorney with the Foss, Kuiken, Gookin & Cochran law firm, is also an at-large member of the Fairfield City Council. He was also recently retained by the 10-15 Transit Board to assist with legal questions revolving around the board’s future and investigations into the Ottumwa Transit Authority.
Gookin is the second new judge to join the district in the past year. Judge Lucy Gamon was sworn in last November.
