AGENCY — A Wapello County man has been arrested and charged with violating the state’s sex offender registry requirements for a second time.
Mark Hopwood, 31, was arrested on warrants for parole violation and failing to comply with the state’s sex offender registry. The registry listed Hopwood with convictions in 2011 of dissemination or exhibition of obscene materials and in 2012 of lascivious acts with a child.
In 2011, Hopwood was received a two-year suspended sentence for failure to comply with the registry.
The Wapello County Sheriff’s Department filed a criminal complaint against Hopwood accusing him of failing to update his information with “relevant information” as required. The charge stemmed from an anonymous tip that said Hopwood had a minor child living with him. Authorities determined the child was the son of a 23-year-old who had moved in with Hopwood.
Hopwood waived his preliminary hearing in the case and was released pending further proceedings.
