Market Street Bridge

OTTUMWA — The 1980s had “The NeverEnding Story.” Ottumwa has the never-ending bridge work.

The Market Street Bridge will be reduced to two lanes of traffic, one in each direction, beginning May 1 as work on painting the bridge continues. The bridge reopened to traffic in November 2015 after the deck and some of the supports were rebuilt, but the final stages of the work have yet to be completed.

Painting is expected to take several weeks, so drivers will need to be cautious on the bridge. While the city suggests seeking other routes, options are limited given the closure of the Jefferson Street Viaduct for repairs of its own.
