OTTUMWA — Authorities said a pilot was fortunate to walk away from a crash this weekend at Ottumwa Regional Airport.
The Ottumwa Fire Department responded to the airport at 10:50 a.m. Saturday after the plane flipped upon landing. Officials said it apparently suffered a malfunction in the landing gear upon landing.
The name of the pilot has not been released. The National Transportation Safety Board, which investigates aircraft incidents, did not have a report in its online docket as of Tuesday afternoon.
NTSB records gave the most recent reported incident at Ottumwa Regional Airport as taking place three years ago, in September 2016.
